Pregnancy care in clinical settings may be sufficient for the moment women are standing in. And yet, I feel clear that we are missing so many opportunities for deep and real preparation for what comes next.

Women deserve is to be simultaneously supported for the moment they’re standing in and prepared for what’s ahead. So we will use this time to set you up with a strong foundation of health for now and build a framework that will serve you in the future.

Support to meet you in the moment you are standing in through each trimester.

Layering in education and fostering your awareness around preparing for labour, postpartum and motherhood.

  • The acupuncture will focus on your present symptoms. Our education and mindset work will look further down the road.

It is possible (and incredibly helpful) to prepare for what’s ahead. To prepare for birth and postpartum during pregnancy. To prepare for the experiences and challenges of the mother role ahead of time.

Taking this second trimester (or from whenever you start to feel well again from first trimester) to plan and ground is an absolute game changer.

  • First trimester can include a symptom picture that can be tricky to navigate.

Once we get closer to approaching birth, it’s impossible to see past that event in any meaningful way. To extend our focus beyond the birth itself when your belly is swollen and the experience is looming is really tricky.

Once we land in postpartum, there isn’t time or capacity to learn, make conscious choices and think critically.

And so: second trimester is the ideal time to harness your passion and your clarity to focus on everything that will happen after the birth. To focus on creating an intentional postpartum and making a plan for early mothering.

    • Do acupuncture based on what’s happening for your body and pregnancy

    • We will work to optimise your current experience of health. Pregnancy can affect moods, sleep, energy, digestion. It can be physically uncomfortable. All of this matters.

    • Play pregnancy / birth preparation or other relevant meditations while the pins are in

    • Consider how your preferred learning style will inform the way to engage with pregnancy, birth and postpartum information

    • Suggest relevant podcasts, books, research, article recommendations and other resources based on your interests and what’s unfolding in your unique pregnancy

    • Explore your personal values to step towards claiming what’s important for you in birth, postpartum and mothering

    • Tools and understandings and explore themes that will serve you later in pregnancy, in early postpartum and well into the early years of mothering

    • Discuss creating an intentional postpartum and early mothering experience

  • I want to teach you what you want to learn.

I want to open up discussions about meeting the emotional brick wall in labour even before your first contraction.

I want to talk about what birth trauma is, and how to step through it before you even give birth.

I want you to understand the basics of The Perfect Mother Myth before you begin the mothering work.

I want to discuss with you the key factors that influence postnatal depletion before you even get there.

  • “…significantly reduced end of intervention depression, stress and psychological distress scores…”

“Pregnant women particularly need sufficient sleep to nourish the development of their infants and the energy they need for the labor and delivery process. Sleep deprivation during pregnancy has been associated with longer labor, elevated perception of pain and discomfort during labor, higher cesarean rates, preterm labor.... Limited research has also indicated a possible relationship between sleep deprivation and preterm births and postpartum depressive mood.”

My hope is that laying these foundations in pregnancy makes it easier to reach out for support as you need it postnatally and through the early years of mothering.

We have the opportunity to intentionally design Pregnancy Care to maximise long-term therapeutic outcomes. Exquisite Pregnancy Care can have a positive impact on your lived experience now and well into your future.
