Early Mothering Years Support

In our current cultural story, the Self Sacrificial Mother Reigns Supreme... And it is delivering our entire generation of mothers straight into the hands of overwhelm, exhaustion and burnout.

The more selfless a mother becomes - the more she can disappear into mothering, the more she is glorified through the eyes of patriarchal motherhood.

Through this lens, Mothers are dehumanised, and their basic human needs are divorced from their bodies.

In a cultural story where a mothers health is not valued or tended to - postnatal depletion thrives. Mothers are stretched too thin to function.

So we rewrite that story.

We rewrite that story within us and around us.

We rewrite that story, because we know:
Mothers are humans and their needs matter. In its most basic form, Mothers require protected rest, adequate food intake and blocks of sleep in order to function.

We rewrite the story,

because we understand that our value and worth exists completely independent of our mothering role.

I want mothers to emerge from postpartum feeling transformed and alive.
Strong and powerful. Open to the completely new parts of themselves that have been revealed in the process of this transition.

Together we will:

  • Create safe space for open, honest dialogue - involving compassionate listening on my end around how things are going for you

  • Do an Acupuncture treatment that takes into consideration your energy levels, digestion, sleep, emotional health, stress levels, breastfeeding story, any pain you may be experiencing, menstrual cycle information etc.

  • Consider integrating moxibustion (warming therapy over the acupuncture points)

  • Play a meditation while you rest with the pins in

  • Consider cupping therapy if your back and shoulders are tight

  • Consider Classical Chinese Herbal Medicine support as needed

  • Normalise the depth of the mothering experience, and humanise the mothering role.

  • Discuss sustainable mothering practices. Naming specific and measurable priorities for the moment you are standing in. (This is particularly crucial if overwhelm or burnout is a current piece of the puzzle.)

  • I want to teach you what you want to learn. If you want to know more, I can point you towards resources, podcast episodes, research articles, imagery and relevant written work of other health care professionals. This will allow you to build your own framework of understanding, in a way that makes sense to you, about the particular terrain you are traversing.

  • As organically arrises, together we can build your awareness and language around our current expectations of mothers, and how we can thrive outside of those structures. We can have conversations about how the ‘Perfect Mother Myth’ may be detrimentally affecting your health. I can provide some gentle direction around identifying and discarding non-serving societal beliefs as an access point for improving your experience of health and mothering.

  • We are building pathways for prevention / early intervention. As mothers we are often aware of symptoms and troublesome patterns residing inside our bodies, but we don’t have the capacity / resources / skills / time / mental bandwidth to prioritise their resolution. Identifying and acting on anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, insomnia, gut disfunction and burnout / postnatal depletion as early as possible is crucial.

  • If we have missed the early intervention boat, and you already find yourself deep in exhaustion and depletion (no judgement, I have beeeeeeeen there…) then we might want to consider introducing Chinese herbs as an adjunctive support between treatments. We will work on getting a comprehensive team of health care professionals around you to carve a new pathway to health. You are so worthy of feeling alive and well.

A Note On Post Pandemic Mothering:

Many of us have begun the huge and complex work of mothering in the context of extremely isolating conditions.

I honour your strength and courage, your grit and tenacity. I acknowledge gaps in care that already existed for mothers have in some senses widened. And I look forward to elevating the care you receieve within your mothering experience.
